My College Dorm-Room Favorites

Things I Have in My Dorm: I probably don't need them, but I like them...
Over the summer, I went a little crazy on the Amazon packages for things in my dorm. I spent probably more money than I should have, but I kept looking at Pinterest and coming up with more things I "needed" to get in order for my dorm to feel like home. While some of it I don't use and definitely wasted money there, there are tons of things I use every day that I never would have expected! These are some of my most-used items and things I keep on hand.
Things I Use:
1. Small Desk Lamp If your dorm is going to be anything like mine, the overhead light will be your absolute LAST resort for lighting. It looks like the true jail cell it is in my room when we turn that on. A small desk lamp with warm lighting is a great, calming source of light for doing homework, writing in a journal, or even eating snacks (as I often do) at your desk. I got a simple white one with a gold stand from Target for around $…

Trying to Eat Healthy In College

Eating Healthy Is Hard: my favorite snacks and college dining hall meals
The tell-tale stories of the horrible college dining hall food that you hear? They're mostly true, but not always for the reasons that you might think. The food itself, while not terrible in terms of taste, lacks options, especially healthy options. Unless you want to eat salad for every meal, you might need to supplement with healthy snacks in your dorm and being creative with the meals you make. I find myself eating the same things over and over again, just because I know they taste good and they make me feel full. Here are some of my favorite meals and snacks that I keep on hand:
-scrambled eggs + salsa + turkey sausage links
-english muffin breakfast sandwich: one egg white + one slice of cheese + spinach
-vanilla greek yogurt + granola + blueberries
-oatmeal + brown sugar + almonds
-strawberry peach mango or green smoothie (I try to avoid smoothies with banana)

Usually, I will drink a full glas…

I Take a Stab at Adulting? College 101

Learning Adulting the Hard Way: a look back on freshman year so far
People say college is the best four years of your life. They say you'll never have a schedule like this again. I let these thoughts go to my head all throughout high school. I envisioned myself at a school in a city somewhere, happy and working towards my future goals. I dreamed of a shiny new group of friends, a beautiful dorm room, and study sessions all over campus. While I certainly got the study sessions and amazing new friends, college life wasn't what I expected it to be at all. College is HARD. Sometimes it's like your Carrie Underwood and all you can think is "Jesus please just take the freaking wheel already" because life really gets the best of you. It's one of the most rewarding experiences I've had so far, but there are certainly many lessons I've learned along the way.

Here is my advice for making the most out of freshman year:
1. Overpacking is GOOD.
You will find a bill…
